Toyota Is Resisting Electric Vehicle Mandates
Download MP3Toyota was one of the first companies to really mass market electric or hybrid vehicles back with the Toyota Prius Very famous. first case mass market car. from the late nineties early two thousands and the Prius was kind of a groundbreaker for getting hybrid or EVs. Out into the marketplace but now Toyota is one of the most high profile companies. That's pushing back a little bit against electric vehicle mass conversion. What they're saying is this push to get all gasoline vehicles off the road might be a little bit premature. Some states are pushing to have all gasoline vehicles sales be stopped in 2030 or 2035. It's a short seven years away. And Toyota is saying look wait a minute. it's not. It's a little bit too extreme to get rid of gasoline vehicles and go to all EVs. That quick. Let's slow it down Let's do some hybrids. Let the market kind of migrate to electric vehicles. Before you jump the gun and ban them altogether. And they have a point they're actually looking at some scientific, reports and some surveys that show that it might not be a good thing to jump into electric vehicles too fast And, you know the Toyota. executive staff is catching some heat about this. there's some pushback against it Some environmental, activists are saying that this is the wrong thing to say for a large car company What are your thoughts? Should we be. Switching over to EVs very very quickly. Should we be jumping into the electric vehicle mandate? That prohibit gasoline vehicles at all. after a certain number of years, Do you think that the charging network is ready for all electric vehicles Do you think the manufacturing process. Has the capacity and the raw materials to do electric vehicles. And do you think Toyota's right. To try to put some brakes on this mass. Rush to electric vehicles or do you think that they're the outlier and that they're going to get lost in the shuffle when all other manufacturers have electric vehicles? And Toyota is not quite yet. Again it's ironic coming from the manufacturer of the Toyota Prius which is one of the first vehicles to be out there as a large volume scale electric vehicle to have them be the one that are starting to slow down this process.
