Did you know the DOJ recently busted a huge title fraud scheme going on in New Jersey? As a vehicle buyer in any state, it's important to know what these scammers are capable of to avoid being victimized by their fraudulent actions.

here's another really good story about what can happen what can go wrong if you don't do your titles right or you try to scam somebody. this is from the US department of justice very serious government agency look any government agency with three digits are three letters in their name D. O. J. IRS FBI you don't want to mess with them. so U. S. department of justice investigated this case where people were doing title fraud and there are people from New Jersey they were falsified vehicle titles part of it had to do with odometer rollbacks apart it was ownership. and they had arrested these people a while back two thousand twelve the two thousand sixteen they engaged in a scheme to sell high mileage used vehicles with false. titles so look how far back that went two thousand twelve the two thousand sixteen this came out twenty two so what at the very latest it's six years from the time they did this. the take away from this is don't do anything sketchy with titles because even if you think you got away with it they can come back at you six years later. a vehicle title is a very serious thing it's a legal government document you've seen it right it's it's a certificate issued by the government they they don't play around with these. if they find that you did something with a title that is illegal they will find out at some point. the records will come back around and if you did title washing if you did forgery if you did something with false representations at the bottom of every application that you sign for a title if you miss represent something you're signing a document saying it's under the penalty of perjury and that document is permanent. like if they find out what was wrong they'll they'll come back later. collaboration with DOJ to investigate fraud national highway transportation administration another agency and they sold a hundred eighteen cars the these title scammers. if you're doing titles you want to know how it's getting done. you don't to just let somebody else do a title on your behalf if you don't know what's going on behind the scenes. you want to see the document you want to sign the documents because the title fraud can not only revoke any improper title they can get the people behind them into trouble. here's another one here's a county clerk that created fake vehicle titles got caught. the clerk altered titles to indicate it was sold to a family member. so they can get bank loans. anything with a title is messing with government records. sometimes these title crimes are part of a larger criminal enterprise. this gang had vehicle titles they were stolen but the same time look what else is on the table they had fake vehicle titles had guns driver's licenses credit cards all kind of illegal stuff plus drugs. so titles aren't an innocent thing just kind of getting somebody ownership they can be part of a bigger picture. even public companies a licensed dealerships are not immune. you probably heard about Carvana having title problems well got so bad that Carvana's license to sell cars is suspended. they got so bad with getting titles to people or doing something wrong with titles that the state government shut them down revoked their license. and it's not just Illinois there's complaints made in Florida and other states as well. and it's another example of where titles are so important that you want to make sure it gets done right you don't take any short cuts because whether you're a criminal organization a fake title company a dealership or an individual forging titles for your own benefit at some point it's going to catch up to the vehicle and that vin number and have consequences for the owner. put your comments below let us know what you think maybe you've experience some of this we'd love to hear from you.
