The Electric Revolution: How EVs Went from Niche to Must-Have
Download MP3Are EVs starting to become popular? Well according to Auto blog, many states have an acceleration in the number of people who are buying and registering new electric vehicles. So the question is how do you feel about it? It's a very polarizing subject - some people love EVs, some people hate them.
A lot of times the reason that they're disliked now is because of the practicality of the vehicle. You have to stop and charge it, the range might be less. You know, you put a full tank of gas in a vehicle that maybe has a 20-gallon tank, you get 25 miles per gallon, you can drive 500 miles before you stop for gas, and when you stop for gas it takes you 5 minutes at a gas station. An electric vehicle might only have a 200 mile range and when you stop for gas it might take you an hour - big difference. So that's one of the big holdbacks on it, but even with that, people are buying.

Now back to your video. Electric vehicles - one of the other costs that is often overlooked is depreciation. Many of these electric vehicles are depreciating in the used car market because there's not as much demand for them as used. Many people that buy them as new, it's more of a status symbol or a cultural symbol that they're looking out for the environment. Some of that doesn't trickle down to used cars, so the used car depreciation and residual values are suffering because of that.
That might indicate that a used EV could be a very good deal. In fact, we've seen some examples where used electric vehicles are tremendous values - they're half the price of what a comparable gas car would be. And for a second or third vehicle or for a commuter car, it might be something to look into.
So I know you have an opinion about all this. Let us know in the comments below what you think about the prospect of getting an electric vehicle.
