The Dark Side of AI in the Workplace
Download MP3Artificial intelligence is really not even 100% deployed in companies yet and already it's creating a lot of turmoil and chaos within companies. This article from Axios is showing how employees and executives are fighting over how to deploy artificial intelligence. The subheadline says adoption in the workplace is deepening divisions and sparking new power struggles between leaders and workers. Half of executives say AI is tearing their company apart. This is pretty serious.
So, artificial intelligence as a business tool has the potential to throw out the power dynamics between employees and managers. It may not just be employees that are at risk. Even managers might be at more risk if you don't need as much oversight or management supervision. A lot of managers might feel like, "Gee, I'm going to be out of the loop." Sometimes employees will still be needed for some of the jobs where managers might be out. So there's a lot of fear, a lot of trepidation in workplaces about artificial intelligence.
Certainly, there's going to need to be actual humans to oversee, run, and put the strategic intellect behind these tools. But who's it going to be? Is it going to be executives? Is it going to be workers? Is it going to be a new class of employees that's not yet known?
