Reviving the Legend: The Refurbished NSX Program
Download MP3rying to emulate some of the other performance vehicle manufacturers, Acura is looking at a way to do a complete restoration on older NSXs on behalf of owners and talked about this last year at one of their enthusiast meetings. The first generation NSX, from '90 to '07, is being considered for a restoration program where you can bring your car into the factory, and they'll redo the car to certain specs. Now, they're already doing this in Japan and are looking at doing it in the U.S. to see if there's an appetite for this type of service.
According to the responses from last fall, it looks like the exploratory research has indicated that, yes, there are lots of people who would want to take this first-generation NSX and redo the vehicle. Having a factory-certified program would cut the cost so that it was more standardized, and it wouldn't end up costing you $80,000–$90,000 to redo the whole car. It would be a more standardized package.
So, if you're an owner or potentially looking at a first-generation NSX, be aware that the factory, Acura Honda, is looking at a program to restore the car to factory specs so you have a brand-new vehicle on a classic vehicle chassis.
