Pilots or Programs: Do We Need Actual Humans Flying Planes?

Download MP3

Should AI robots be flying planes? I'm not sure. AI is fine for different types of administrative jobs; even robots flipping burgers are okay. But they're now talking about pilots, which are robots that are going to be flying planes. There's a pilot shortage, and the way they're coming up with it is an AI-powered pilot. I don't know. I think I want flesh and blood behind the yoke of a plane if I'm going to be flying in it. Do you think this is going too far? Do you think actual humans should be flying planes?

Are there any other jobs that you don't want a robot doing that you want an actual human, no pun intended, flying the plane? Maybe doing surgery? Maybe handling nuclear weapons? I don't know. Should AI be doing everything, or are there some limits where you don't want a robot programmed with artificial intelligence doing something that has so much risk of going haywire and causing harm, damage, or injury to somebody? You tell me.
