…So what happens if you lose a title? Before you transfer into your name? Well in that case it's like that transfer never happened. The only people that know that that vehicle is transferred is you and the person that gave you the title. Even though sometimes that wasn't even the owner maybe the owner of the vehicle on the title signed it to somebody and they signed it over to you. So the paper. Of that transfer the title. Maybe a bill of sale. That's just a witness to the transaction is not proof of ownership. If that paper's gone, then that evidence is gone. It's a protection against vehicles being transferred. illegally to the wrong owner that paper title is the ownership It's like money That's why if you look at the scroll work it's like a legal document. The DMV Won't take your word for it. If you tell them, Hey I had this car was transferred to me by the loss of title. They're not going to take your word for it because then anybody could show up there and say Hey I own this car. Give me a title of my name and you wouldn't like that to happen to your car If you didn't legally transfer. If you have that title in your hand, and it's not yet printed in your name as soon as possible, go to the DMV, exchange it for a title that is printed in your name, because that way you won't have to worry about what would happen if you lose it and then have to backtrack all that paperwork.
