Humans Optional: The Rise of Jobless Work

So, is this a good thing or a bad thing? The tech mogul who invented Microsoft, Bill Gates, is saying that there will only be a two-day work week. Well, that sounds good on the first sentence of the article, but the second sentence is AI is replacing humans for most things. So, is this good or bad? Well, it's a good thing if you still have income. It's a bad thing if you only get paid two days worth of income per week because how are you going to pay your bills? It's still unknown what the future of work will be.

And that's the section of Fortune magazine that has this. It's called the "Future of Work." Do you think that if artificial intelligence is going to take over that there will be an income source for the people whose jobs were previously done by actual humans? Bill Gates says for most things. Now, does he know what he's talking about? I don't know. He's a very influential individual in the tech world. He has insight into government, into technology.

He's run businesses before, so presumably he knows where this is all going. He's saying that AI is going to replace humans. Fact. He says it'll only be a two-day work week. Another way to look at it is they only need humans for two days a week. So, the headline can be interpreted multiple ways. If they only need you for two days a week, why are they going to pay you for five, right? Where are they going to get the money from to pay you for five if they only need you for two? Are they just going to be charitable and still pay you the money even though they don't need you, or are they going to keep the money for themselves?

Where do you think executives are going to pay the money when they don't have the need for as much labor? Are they going to keep it for themselves or just pay people? I think you know what the answer to that question is. The other thing is they may need you for two days for a certain job, but they may keep you for five days to do four other jobs, but then get rid of four other people. You want to be one of the ones they keep. Who are they going to be keeping? People that know how to run AI.

So, in our opinion, it's a good idea to learn how AI works, learn how to operate it, learn how to interpret it, because those are going to be the jobs that'll still be in demand.
