Here's a perfectly good example: The Department of Justice did an indictment on a $43 million fake crypto Ponzi scheme. I can't tell you how many times we've seen stories like this. We get dozens of calls every day from people who have lost money on these fake investments, usually crypto or Bitcoin schemes. They put in money, they show you a return, then they ask you for more money. They show you more of a return. Next thing you know, you've got a lot of money in there, and you might see a big number on your statement. But that statement is just fake. And then, when you go to take money out, they tell you, "Well, you have to pay taxes or you have to pay audit fees," or something, or they ghost you, or both.
But these cases do get investigated. They get prosecuted. You need to file it with the IC3, make sure you do that.
