Finding 5+ Acre Homes for Under $200,000: Tips and Secrets
Download MP3So, even though the pandemic is over, a lot of people want more room to spread out on their property. Today, we're going to review houses that are under $200,000 but have at least five acres of property. All of these properties are in the southeast part of the country, specifically in the Carolinas, Georgia, and that area. They are all single-family residences—no apartments or condos—and each has at least five acres of land.
The first house we'll look at is in Kentucky. It's a three-bedroom, two-bath, 2,400 square foot home on 6.5 acres. Look at this house—it has very nice styling and detailing. The interior is in reasonably good condition; it's not a brand-new house by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s livable. The home features nice bay windows, cathedral ceilings, and a lot of wood in the main living areas. I'm not sure if they’re in the middle of painting, but that’s just one example of a house with acreage being available in different parts of the country.
Next, we’re going to look at a property in Georgia, specifically in Somerville. This house is priced at $180,000, and it’s a three-bedroom, two-bath, 1,600 square foot home on a five and a quarter-acre lot. This is a nice brick ranch-style house, which is typical in southern Georgia. It sits on a nice, level lot with Paloma grass in the front. This house needs a little more updating—there are vinyl floors and some wood paneling on the walls—but it's still a livable house. All the houses we feature here are livable from day one. They might need some paint and updating, but they’re ready to live in right away.
House number three is in Tennessee, on Catawba Lane. It’s priced at $175,000 and sits on 14 acres. This is a smaller house, only 1,100 square feet, but you get a lot of room to roam on 14 acres. The interior of this one needs more work. It could use some updating, such as new floors and painting, but it has a fully functional kitchen. The property includes a portion that’s cleared, and you can see a nice yard with some trees in the back, offering plenty of space for outdoor activities.
The last house we’re going to look at is in South Carolina. This is a split-level house with a carport on the side, priced at $149,000. It’s a 2,000 square foot home on six acres. This seems like a deal if you want room to grow, perhaps for pets or simply to have space between you and your neighbors. It’s a three-bedroom, three-bath house that does need some updating—there’s some Formica with chips, vinyl flooring, and paneling on the walls. These are all things you could change yourself, and the house is livable from day one. It may not be pretty, but it’s livable. You might want to replace the wallpaper, which probably dates back to the 70s or 80s. Starting with six acres and a 2,000 square foot house for $150,000 seems like a good deal. Given the current interest rates, you may want to keep the house price low and do the work yourself to keep your mortgage payment manageable. Even at 6%, 7%, or 8%, you’re looking at about $1,500 per month for the mortgage, so you can enjoy a nice, low mortgage payment.
