so is it possible to put a mechanic's lien on the vehicle to get a title. well some states if you're a licensed automotive business not just a business license but a specific type of license like a towing company or a body shop or dealership and the owner of the body shop and the buyer signed an affidavit of circumstances. it says somebody brought this car and they authorize work on the car they signed a repair order saying change my engine they didn't pay for the thing now I'm auctioning it off. you as the buyer is the owner and the owner of that license business have to sign an affidavit saying that's what happened. if that's not what happened in its audited that title can be revoked for fraud. if you are a dealer and you are body shop or repair shop you can get a title if you follow the steps exactly. you have the entire package of how to do a mechanic's lien in your dealer's license manual. if you follow the steps exactly you can get a title now be aware of that the state DMV really does not want to give you a title under mechanic's lien because this process is abused by a lot of licensed dealers. some states are even shutting down the process. so if you want to do it make sure that you follow the steps exactly in still expected them to kick it back with some notation have to fix something usually it's not legitimate but if you fix and send it back at least shows that you're willing to follow through. so mechanic's lien some cases is not the best way there's some companies out online or in person might say if you give me five hundred Bucks I'll get you a mechanic's lien to get your title be aware that you're gonna have to sign or the owner will sign an affidavit that may not match the exact circumstances of that vehicle and that title can be revoked if it's fraud. so mechanic's lien may not be the best way the good thing is there's many other ways that are much cheaper you don't have to pay hundreds of dollars to get a title for a car. you can do it yourself and there's many other ways to get a title that don't have the risk of that vehicle title being revoked at a later date.
