Business Size and Fraud: Who's Most at Risk?
Download MP3We always like to keep track of what the trends are for fraud against companies and embezzlement. Here's a really good survey from the ACFE, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, surveying business owners, corporate counsel, and fraud examiners about what types of organizations have fraud perpetrated against them.
If you look, they have it broken down into four categories: larger corporations, nonprofits, government agencies, and small businesses. Interestingly, the distribution is almost equal across the board, with a quarter allocated to each category.
This survey already has over 150 votes and will continue for another 14 days. The results show that fraud is not just targeting large corporations or government agencies; it’s targeting everybody. In fact, small businesses are increasingly becoming victims of cyberattacks, fraud, and embezzlement. Hackers or fraudsters often believe small businesses have less detection and prevention in place.
Cybersecurity can be expensive, and many small businesses struggle to fund it on a limited budget. However, there are now many monitoring and scanning tools available to help prevent these issues. It’s important to note that even larger corporations are not immune. Hackers and fraudsters are targeting organizations of all sizes, so whether you’re a business owner, an executive, or a board member, it’s essential to stay vigilant.
